Color Trends for 2018

October 23rd, 2017 | Posted in Design Trends, Nashville | Tagged ,

With 2018 fast approaching, color trend forecasts and unique applications are dominating the world around us. Each year, new design trends and color pallets are announced. Trends for next year are all about pushing the boundaries and stepping out of comfort zones. The diverse “colors of the year” were announced the past week, so we’re going to take a look and see how these can be applied to home design and remodel projects.

As you can see on the right, next year’s trends are venturing away from the neutrals we are used to and incorporate richer jewel toned colors. These colors are evident in designs this year already, and will begin to be seen more in accent walls, furniture, and décor in the coming year.

Behr’s color “In the Moment” is a safer approach, keeping a semi-neutral color balanced with a muted blue hue. We have seen this in kitchen design being utilized as a wall color or even an island with custom painted cabinets. This is a more versatile color and can be used anywhere – from interior walls, to exterior applications. It keeps up with the coastal and nautical trend while still being unique and easily adding to any design style.

Benjamin Moore’s “Caliente AF-290”

For a bolder look, Benjamin Moore’s “Caliente AF-290” is a good option. Ellen O’Neill from Benjamin Moore describes this color as

the signature color of a modern architectural masterpiece; a lush carpet rolled out for a grand arrival; the assured backdrop for a book-lined library; a powerful first impression on a glossy front door. The eye can’t help but follow its bold strokes. Harness the vitality.”

Red accents bring a sense of nostalgia as well – we saw red a lot in the 1970’s diner era to add a pop of color to a black and white interior. Caliente AF-290 is expected to be a similar trend; adding an unexpected splash of hue in an otherwise neutral setting

“Oceanside” by Sherwin-Williams.

Finally, we have “Oceanside” by Sherwin-Williams. Sherwin-Williams announced three color pallets, and this particular pallet forecast is full of rich jewel-toned colors. We have seen these deeper colors sneaking up on us in the past, but they are expected to be even more evident. According to their website, this color is described as

a complex, deep color that offers a sense of the familiar with a hint of the unknown, Oceanside, bridges together a harmonious balance of blues and greens that can be found in what’s old and new.”

We are excited to see what these new hues and trends will bring us in 2018!
